¥ÄáW øÞ¼í

The much awaited "Twenty-20" has been released, but with much less pomp and show, due to the initial boycott of the movie by Mohanlal fans. They were agitated by the initial posters of the film featuring all the 5 lead actors- Mohanlal, Mammooty, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram & Dileep. In the poster Mammooty is shown in the middle, which made the Mohanlal fans feel bad. If 5 people are standing in a row, can anyone make 2 people stand in the middle?? Then why are they arguing for equal importance to both?
As we all know, they both are acclaimed, sucesful and talented actors with fans across the globe. But die hard fans from both sides cause troubles by arguing their star is the best.
I am not a fan of either of them. I'm an ordinary cinema goer. I, personaly feel both of them are equally good.(or rather all 5 of them are equally good). It's high time that we should stand united for the cause of good cinema. We should learn to appreciate good cinema, for the sake of cinema.

Pathan kanda Paralokam

As I've said earlier, I watch movies for entertainment and so, I mostly watch action, suspense, horror or comedy movies rather than serious realistic films. Recently I watched the film "Pathan kanda Paralokam". It is a fantasy - comedy cinema, starring Jayaram, Mukesh, Sreedevika, Jagathy etc.
Jayaram as Parthan, Jagathy as Phalgunan, Kottayam Nazeer as Sulaiman create a lot of hilarious scenes. The story of Parthan who had a few "Near Death Experience" is told in a witty manner by Rajan Kiriyath. The incidents in his village, after these incidents and the arrival of Madhavam (Mukesh)
forms the main story. The film directed by Anil entertains the audience. The review in Malayalam is given below.

C.B: Mulla is the nickname of the hero.

C.B: Dileep. heroine is a novice - Meera Nandan
M.M: The film's name means jasmine. But Meera Jasmine is not in the movie?
C.B: no, no... how do you know her?
M.M: I saw her movie - "Padam onnu: Oru Vilapam". have you?

Though cinema is the collective effort of hundreds, the role of the director is remarkable and stands out in the crowd. The memorable films are the results of the hard work, dedication and imagination of a talented director. Our Malayalam Cinema Industry too has its own battalion of very talented directors who have devoted their life to cinema. The fame of directors like Aravindan and Adoor Gopalakrishnan are not limited to Kerala alone. In addition to them Ramu Karyat, K.S.Sethumadhavan, P.G.Vishwambharan, K.G.George, I.V.Sasi, Joshiy, Kamal, Hariharan, Sathyan Anthikad and a lot others have made many memorable films in Malayalam for which we Malayalees are proud of. The first Malayalam cinema to get the President's medal was "Neelakuyil" directed by Ramu Kariyat and P .Bhaskaran. It brought the President's silver medal to Malayalam. The first Malayalam movie to get President's gold medal was "Chemmen" directed by Ramu Kariyat. Several other cinema and directors brought awards and thus fame to Malayalam Cinema Industry. Aravindan and Adoor Gopalakrishnan are the main directors who brought international acclaim to Malayalam cinema. With "Elipathayam", "Kodiyettam", "Swayamvaram" etc, Adoor Gopalakrishnan has shown his talent to the world. "Kanchanaseetha", "Kummatti", "Vasthuhara" are some among Aravindan's memorable works to name a few. P.J.Antony is the first Malayalam actor to bag the Bharat award for best actor in India. Even now, Malayalam cinema produces good films with artistic qualities which brings fame to us.

So Malayalees all me "CINEMA BHRANTHAN" (meaning one who is crazy about movies) . I watch almost all Malayalam movies and critically evaluate them. But..., most of the time I feel lonely. Cinema, the media of the masses, was the brain child of Auguste Lumiere and Louis Lumiere. It conquered the minds of people across the globe. In a small land like Kerala, cinema is the hearthrobe of millions.The dawn of Malayalam Cinema Industry was in the year 1928 with the release of the silent movie "Vigathakumaran", by J.C. Daniel.So Malayalam Cinema is the brain child of J.C. Daniel. Vigathakumaran was followed by Marthandavarma in 1933. The real malayalam movie (or rather 'talkie' ) was "Balan", released in 1938.Since then Malayalam Cinema has gone through many experiments and talents. Even in 2008, Malayalam Cinema is in it's glory with the Vishu films running in packed houses.

"MULLA"
"Mulla" is the Vishu film of Dileep - Lal Jose team. In this film Lal Jose teamed up with his favourite music director - Vidyasagar .This film penned by Sinduraj portrays Dileep in a different look.
"Mulla" is the story of Mulla (Dileep) and Lacchi (Meera Nandan). Mulla lives in a colony (Karakad colony) which breeds all sorts of evils in the society.Lacchi earns her living by working in a bakery and by writing banners after her father's death. They get close by means of a baby boy, whom they get from a train.They fall in love and there surfaces the villan.
This is an action oriented love story with some moments of fun here and there. The action sequences though good are not upto the marks.The film looks almost like a Tamil film, with it's story line set in a colony. Vidyasagar had composed 4 songs for this film. The songs "Kannin vathil...." and "Kanalukal...." are good.
As a whole, "Mulla" doesn't disappoint it's viewers. It's watchable though it is not as promising like Lal Jose's earlier films like "Meesa Madhavan", "Classmates",
"Arabikatha" etc.

CHINTHAMANI KOLACASE
"Chinthamani Kolacase" was Suresh Gopi's best film after his comeback as "Bharathchandran I.P.S". It's a legal thriller which portrays Suresh Gopi as advocate Lal Krishna Viradiyar popularly known as L.K (License to Kill). L.K is a criminal lawyer who saves his clients from the law to impart justice (The Cosmic Law) .He finishes them without leaving the slightest of the clues. The films begins with L.K executing Isra Qureshi who raped and murdered his teacher.
According to the Police case diary, Chintamani(Bhavana) was ragged by a group of 9 senior girls .She was killed during the act and her body was cut into pieces and dumped in a river by the girls. L.K appears for the convicts in 'Chinthamani Kolacase'. He saves his clients from law and there is the suspense of the story.
The fool proof script by A.K.Sajan , the fast pace of the film , the superb suspence, fast editing dy Donmax, and of course Shaji Kailas' direction are some of the plus points of this film, to name a few. Rajamani's B.G.M and the song "Madhava Mahadeva...." by Shan add to the mood of the film. The camerawork by Raja Rathinam is good.Suresh Gopi, Bhavana, Biju Menon, Thilakan, Kalabhavan Mani, Saikumar have performed brilliantly. As a whole, "Chinthamani Kolacase" is an excellent action-suspence film.
