C.B: no, no.... there are some others too

C.B: I don't know exactly. A Black & White movie "Karutha Rathrikal" is a sci-fi movie
M.M: what's the meaning of the title?
C.B: Ooops... I forgot to say that. It means Dark Nights
M.M: What's it about?
C.B: A scientist invents a drug that converts a man into a beast & so on
M.M: you havn't seen it?
C.B: no, it's a very old one
M.M: then, another one
C.B: a recent one is "Bharathan". It's the name of the hero
M.M: story?
C.B: a man, with scientific abilities researches on anti gravity and develops some sort of machine or vehicle or something like that
M.M: Sounds great!!! you havn't seen that too?
C.B: I'll see it
M.M: who wrote this?
C.B: Madhu Muttom, writer of "Manichitrathazhu".
M.M: O.k, next?
C.B: these are the only ones I know
M.M: Aren't there any graphics in these movies?
C.B: 'Karutha Rathrikal' was released before the computer graphics era
M.M: O.k
C.B: how is the new Indiana Jones movie?
M.M: I havn't seen it, sounds good
C.B: O.k, lets move on to another topic

C.B: Don't panic. It's about a drama writer. Jayasurya is the hero

C.B: "Pachamarathanalil", meaning 'in the shade of a green tree' starring Srinivasan as a cartoonist.

M.M: no.., why?
C.B: just to know how it is
M.M: have you seen the earlier one?
C.B: yes. I liked the graphics in the movie, especially that of the lion
M.M: It's really life-like.
C.B: I love Hollywood movies for their graphic sequences
M.M: aren't there any graphic sequences in Malayalam movies?
C.B: actually our movies revolve around real life situations. there aren't any sci-fi movies here
M.M: What???? not even a single one?
C.B: can't say so. last year a movie was released, 'Athishayan'
M.M: sci-fi movie? what's it about?
C.B: Yah! sci-fi movie. a child consumes a drug & become invisible. later on he becomes hulk like creature
M.M: oh!! how's the graphics
C.B: not bad. but not as good as Hollywood movies
M.M: so you really appreciate our movies
C.B: yes. I see only movies having a lot of graphics coz I can't fully understand your movies
M.M: why?
C.B: your accent is really difficult to follow for malayalees
M.M: O.K, so, which is your favourite hollywood movie
C.B: Jurassic Park
M.M: Why not "Chronicles of Narnia"?
C.B: when Jurassic Park was released we were not aware of graphics. we thought they were all real
M.M: that's really funny
C.B: don't laugh at us. many of us saw the movie without understanding the story, just to see the dinosaurs
M.M: E.T was released before that. you havn't seen it?
C.B: I've seen it. Speilberg is a genius
M.M: Yah! that's right. anyway we were talking about sci-fi movies

C.B: sorry.. Annan means elder brother & Thampi means younger brother. they are actually twins, always fighting each other
M.M: There's scope for a lot of special effects
C.B: Yah! But there ain't many
M.M:anyway, how's the film?
C.B: I told you, complete entertainer. by the way, havn't you seen any movies lately?
M.M: nothing after 10,000 B.C. I'm waiting for M.N.Shyamalan's "The Happening". he's an Indian native you know?

C.B: It's a festival in Kerala. It's a festival of prosperity.
M.M: o.k, which are the movies?
C.B: Mulla and Annan-Thampi
M.M: Mulla means...?
C.B: Jasmine
M.M : What's the relation between jasmine and this movie?
C.B: Mulla is the nickname of the hero.
M.M: Who is the hero?
C.B: Dileep. heroine is a novice - Meera Nandan
M.M: The film's name means jasmine. But Meera Jasmine is not in the movie?
C.B: no, no... how do you know her?
M.M: I saw her movie - "Padam onnu: Oru Vilapam". have you?
C.B: No, I havn't
M.M: Then what sort of movies do you see?
C.B: action or comedy movies
M.M: that's really bad
C.B: Why?
M.M: there's no life in such movies
C.B: But, they entertain us a lot
M.M: entertainment must not be the sole aim of cinema
C.B: why?
M.M: You see, cinema is a media. As a media, it has to convey some message to the society.
C.B: may be...
M.M: o.k, leave that. how is mulla?
C.B: It's a nice film. It's quite watchable. The songs are really very nice. Vidyasagar has done the music.
M.M: Who is the director?
C.B: Lal Jose
M.M: I've heard of him
C.B: what else..?
M.M: nothing more

Cinema is the Director's art. Eisenstein, Hitchcock, Spielberg and many other masters have shown that cinema is truly a Director's art. He is the master of the cinema. Though cinema is the collective effort of hundreds, the role of the director is remarkable and stands out in the crowd. The memorable films are the results of the hard work, dedication and imagination of a talented director. Our Malayalam Cinema Industry too has its own battalion of very talented directors who have devoted their life to cinema. The fame of directors like Aravindan and Adoor Gopalakrishnan are not limited to Kerala alone. In addition to them Ramu Karyat, K.S.Sethumadhavan, P.G.Vishwambharan, K.G.George, I.V.Sasi, Joshiy, Kamal, Hariharan, Sathyan Anthikad and a lot others have made many memorable films in Malayalam for which we Malayalees are proud of. In the coming days, we will go through each of our director's major works.
